"Living your best life" is a phrase I have seen quite a bit as of late. It's prevalent on Instagram, common as commentary on funny videos of dachshunds running in water fountains, and used as a hashtag on posts of all social media varieties, but what does it mean to "live your best life?"
The phrase must mean something different for everyone. For some people, living their best life might be becoming a parent, for others it might mean working towards and attaining a new position at work, and for some it might be as simple as being in a good state mentally. No matter what, the most important thing of all is to stay positive. Whether it is being positive that you can attain your goals, or simply in a positive mind set, no one can be living their best life if they live with a negative mindset.
Daily affirmations are one way to not dwell in the negative. When you wake up each morning, tell yourself that you can have you dreams, that you are working towards your goals, and that you are enough. If you wake up in the morning and are constantly feeling sorry for yourself, missing something you don't have, or giving in to your negative thoughts, the day is bound to start poorly and I can promise you that it will finish that way as well.
For some people fighting those negative thoughts is harder than others, but we all need to start somewhere. Change the background on your phone to a photo that makes you happy, perhaps somewhere you have traveled or want to travel, change out your computer desktop to a background that makes you want to strive to be better.
One of my favorite browser extensions is called Momentum. Momentum gives you daily inspiration in the form of a beautiful photo and an inspirational quote. You can 'heart' the ones you like and add a main focus for the day to keep you on track, there is even a 'todo' list. Every time you open a new browser tab you see Momentum and it almost always makes me smile.
If Momentum isn't up your alley, there are tons of other extensions, websites, and apps to help manage your positivity. If you don't mind paying for a little more intensive, but effective, apps, check out 'Calm' on the Apple app store.
Remember, you have the power to make your own destiny. Don't let negative thoughts impede what you want to do. Go be awesome!
